WRC rejects operator’s claim for extra work during pharmaceutical plant closure

By Cathal Brosnan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC dismissed an operator’s claim for extra work during a pharmaceutical plant closure, finding that a minor departure from the last-in, first-out selection process was covered by the redundancy package. The recommendation was dated 13 June 2017. The operator said shorter-service employees in another department stayed on longer, denying the operator a chance to work extra weeks. The plant said Department B was completing final orders at full capacity and that further redeployments would disrupt production. The adjudicator accepted that explanation and found no basis to enhance or reinterpret the package.
