A solicitor was awarded €2,500 after the WRC found he had been unfairly dismissed. The adjudication officer also found he was due a further contractual week’s notice, although his statutory minimum notice entitlement had been met. The decision was dated 13 September 2017. The solicitor had stayed on after his traineeship while looking for another job. The practice said the arrangement was intended to last only while he sought work. After a dispute over a colleague’s remark about a reference, the officer found the practice dismissed him rather than investigate his complaint. The award took account of his limited efforts to reduce his losses. The officer also noted that he had some part in the way the employment relationship ended.
