Security company ordered to pay steward €186.40 over contract omissions

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC ordered a security company to pay a worker €186.40 after finding his employment contract omitted required terms. The decision was dated 10 July 2017. The worker had been employed casually as a security steward since 2008 and became a supervisor in 2011. He said the contract did not state his place of work. The company accepted that it omitted working hours and different rates for events. Adjudication Officer Caroline McEnery found it also left out the parties’ names, the employer’s address, the start date, pay calculation, paid leave and sick-pay terms. She found the omissions disadvantaged the worker because the work location and pay rates were disputed. The award equalled four weeks’ wages.
