The Workplace Relations Commission found that a complaint alleging a Kerry hotel refused a complainant and family members access to its bar and carvery because they were members of the Traveller community failed. The decision was dated 27 September 2017. The complainant did not attend the hearing, and the merits were not decided.
The complainant’s representative sought an adjournment, saying the complainant was travelling abroad. Adjudication officer Orla Jones refused the request. She found the complainant had received notice of the hearing almost eight weeks beforehand and that the failure to attend was unreasonable. No evidence supporting the discrimination allegation was presented at the hearing.
