The Workplace Relations Commission rejected a receptionist’s pregnancy discrimination complaint, finding that concerns about financial discrepancies predated the employer’s knowledge of her pregnancy. The decision was dated 20 November 2017.
The clinic said it dismissed the receptionist after training and performance concerns, including differences between receipts and bank lodgements. The officer found the evidence about the discrepancies persuasive and concluded the explanation was unrelated to pregnancy. The officer also said the clinic could have been clearer earlier about the problem and the improvements expected.
