A practice nurse won a redundancy-payment appeal after the WRC found that a retiring GP’s practice transfer did not carry over her employment. Adjudication Officer Louise Boyle issued the decision on 27 September 2017, ruling that the nurse’s position ended when the GP retired.
The nurse had started work with a new GP the following day. The WRC awarded a redundancy lump sum based on service from 23 November 2009 and gross weekly pay of €600, subject to the nurse having been in insurable employment for the relevant period. Payments from the Social Insurance Fund are capped at €600.
