The Workplace Relations Commission awarded a kitchen porter €742.58 for unpaid holiday pay in a decision dated 16 November 2017. It also awarded him €439.02 for Sunday work, €354.57 for public holiday pay and €100 each for missed breaks and a breach of written employment terms. The porter said he worked about 40 hours a week at €9.15 an hour and received no Sunday premium, breaks, holiday pay or public holiday pay. The café owner did not attend the hearing or make a submission, so the adjudication officer relied on the porter’s uncontested evidence for the successful complaints. The weekly-rest complaint failed because the porter received a day off each week.
