The Workplace Relations Commission awarded a bar supervisor €2,080 after upholding his complaint that he had not received written terms of employment. In a decision dated 20 November 2017, it also recommended €1,040 compensation over his unfair dismissal. The supervisor said he was dismissed without explanation after returning from holiday. The brewery and pub business said he had come to work drunk and ordered stock without authority, but its co-founder could not say when the alleged drinking incident occurred or confirm the stock allegation. The WRC found that the supervisor was dismissed without notice or a basic disciplinary process, and had no chance to respond or appeal. The business accepted that it had not given him written employment terms.
