A tenant’s discrimination complaints against a landlady failed after he left a Workplace Relations Commission hearing without giving evidence. The decision was dated 2 February 2018. The tenant had alleged discrimination on gender, religion and race grounds.
The tenant asked the adjudicator to hear only the complaint for which he said he had received notice. The landlady asked for all the complaints to be heard. The tenant said he was not ready to give evidence about the other complaints and left the hearing without offering any evidence; the landlady remained available to give evidence.
The adjudicator said she could not proceed to hear evidence after the tenant left. She found that he had failed to pursue his complaints and had not established a prima facie case of discriminatory treatment. The merits were not decided.
