WRC upholds hairdresser’s redundancy complaint over alternative work offer

By Orla Quinn

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC upheld a hairdresser’s redundancy complaint, finding that she had not been offered reasonable alternative employment. It directed the hair salon owner to pay her statutory redundancy entitlement within 42 days. The decision was dated 9 November 2017. The hairdresser said an offer of one day’s work a week, with the possibility of a second day at another salon, was not reasonable. The owner argued that continuing work was available for one day a week, possibly two, and that redundancy was not payable.
