WRC rejects teacher’s €125.63 pay deduction complaint

By Ruairí Dolan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC found a teacher’s Payment of Wages complaint about a €125.63 deduction during industrial action was not well founded. Adjudication Officer Jim O’Connell dated the decision 11 January 2017. The teacher said he was at work for the full day. The school said the deduction related to union-directed industrial action in which members withdrew from supervision and substitution duties. The officer found the teacher had an opportunity to work by confirming his availability for the full range of duties and that the deduction was permitted under the Act.
