WRC upholds general operative’s redundancy claim

By Ruairí Dolan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission upheld a general operative’s redundancy claim against a meat processing plant and directed it to pay his statutory redundancy entitlement. The decision was dated 23 October 2017. The operative direction uses weekly pay of €400 and specifies continuous service from 1 September 2017 to 26 October 2016, although the findings give a 2004 start date and weekly pay of €300. The worker said the plant closed in October 2016, ending all jobs, and that he had not received redundancy pay after more than 12 years’ continuous service. The plant did not attend the hearing or provide submissions. The adjudicator relied on the worker’s uncontested evidence.
