The WRC found that a cleaner was entitled to statutory redundancy after deciding that alternative work offered by her employer was unsuitable. The decision was dated 15 December 2017. She had worked for the cleaning contractor from November 2007 until the contract ended in November 2016. The contractor offered her 10 hours of work over five days at a location 25 kilometres away. She declined, saying she could not afford the travel costs. The adjudication officer found that the cost of travelling for short shifts made the offer unsuitable and that a genuine redundancy existed. The contractor was ordered to pay her statutory redundancy entitlements within six weeks, subject to her having been in insurable employment for the relevant period. The decision gives no figure for the entitlement.
