The Workplace Relations Commission rejected a casino customer’s race discrimination complaint, finding that he was barred because managers believed he had used skill to win at roulette. Adjudication Officer Catherine Byrne dated the decision 27 March 2018.
The customer said he was ejected and barred after his cousin won €6,000 at roulette, and alleged racial abuse. The arcade and casino said managers suspected the group had gained an advantage by using skill rather than chance.
The WRC did not accept the customer’s account of racial abuse and found he had not established grounds for presuming discrimination. It concluded that an Irish customer found using skill to win significant sums would also have been barred.
