WRC rejects hotel employee’s claim for bonus of about €2,800

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC found that a hotel employee’s claim for a bonus of about €2,800 was not well founded. The employee said he expected a pro-rated bonus for the year he resigned. The hotel relied on written rules excluding employees who left before the bonus was reviewed and processed. In a decision dated 28 November 2017, Adjudication Officer Niamh O’Carroll Kelly found that the employee had read and signed the bonus rules and resigned three weeks before processing. The WRC found the hotel had not breached the Payment of Wages Act.
