WRC complaint fails after leisure centre employee misses hearing

Workplace Relations Commission ·

A leisure centre employee’s Payment of Wages Act complaint failed after the employee did not attend the WRC hearing; the merits were not decided. The decision was dated 16 November 2017. The employee alleged the leisure centre withheld the first week’s pay because wages were paid a week in arrears. The employer denied any discrepancy and said its auditors confirmed the payments were correct. The WRC said the employee did not attend to give direct evidence in support of the complaint.
