WRC awards supervisor €1,584 for unpaid notice after plant closure

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission upheld a supervisor’s minimum notice complaint against a food processing company after the respondent did not attend the hearing. Adjudication Officer Enda Murphy ordered €1,584 compensation in a decision dated 31 May 2018. The complainant said she was made redundant when the plant where she worked closed, without prior notice. She had received payment for two weeks’ notice but claimed a further four weeks. The officer found that she had more than 11 years’ service and was entitled to six weeks’ statutory notice. As the company had paid for two weeks, he ordered compensation equivalent to the remaining four weeks’ pay.
