WRC rejects passenger’s age discrimination complaint after €80 clamping charge

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC rejected an age discrimination complaint by a transport passenger who said a changed Luas Park and Ride payment machine led him to pay the wrong charge and have his car clamped. The passenger paid €80 to have the clamp released.

In a decision dated 1 June 2018, the adjudication officer found the passenger had not established a prima facie case of discrimination. The transport company did not attend the hearing. The officer noted that another service provider managed the car park and clamped vehicles for unpaid or expired parking.
