WRC orders public house to provide barman’s contract and pay €200

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission upheld a barman’s complaint and required a public house to give him a written copy of his contract and pay €200 compensation. The decision was dated 20 November 2017. The barman said he was asked to sign the contract on a busy day without enough time to read it and was never given a copy. The employer said he had time to read it during a break and could collect a copy the following week. The adjudication officer accepted that he had been given an opportunity to read the document, but found the employer had not provided the written terms within two months of employment starting.
