The Workplace Relations Commission rejected an Accommodation Seeker’s discrimination complaint against an estate agent, finding no evidence that his application was refused because he was a HAP applicant. The decision was dated 10 April 2018.
The seeker said his accommodation application and references were initially accepted and a €1,800 deposit taken, but the agent later declined the application. The agent said references and rental history were inadequate, and that the seeker behaved aggressively during follow-up discussions.
The adjudication officer found that the seeker had not established a discrimination case. The officer accepted that the application was declined because satisfactory references and rental history had not been provided.
