WRC dismisses job applicant’s family status discrimination claim against crèche

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC dismissed a job applicant’s claim that a crèche discriminated against her on family status grounds after she was not interviewed for a childcare manager role. In a decision dated 27 March 2018, the WRC found she had not established a case of discrimination.

The applicant said her sister’s separate claim against the crèche had influenced the recruitment decision. The crèche said she lacked the required year of childcare management experience. The WRC found no evidence that the applicant met the Act’s definition of family status and dismissed her complaint.
