The Workplace Relations Commission awarded a cinema worker €12,400 for unfair dismissal after finding the dismissal was not justified. The decision was dated 16 April 2018.
The employee had worked for the company for nearly 30 years, helping with cinema operations and management. She said her wages stopped without explanation in June 2017 and that she had never received written terms of employment. The respondent did not appear, but its representative said it would abide by the decision.
The WRC upheld her three complaints. It awarded €4,720 for minimum notice and four weeks’ unpaid wages, and €1,520 because no written terms were provided. For unfair dismissal, it awarded €12,400, comprising €7,600 for losses until November 2017 and €4,800 for subsequent diminished losses after her pension began.
