WRC upholds restaurant worker’s redundancy complaint after sudden closure

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC upheld a restaurant employee’s redundancy complaint after a pizza restaurant in Monaghan town closed without notice. The decision was dated 22 May 2018. The employee said he had worked there since November 2014 and was made redundant when the business closed in March 2017 and removed its equipment. His weekly salary was €121.42. The respondent did not appear at the hearing, and the WRC found the complaint well founded because no defence had been raised.
