Restaurant manager entitled to redundancy lump sum after franchise loss

By Cathal Brosnan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

A restaurant manager was entitled to a redundancy lump sum after the respondent lost the restaurant franchise where she worked. The WRC decision, dated 6 June 2018, set the entitlement by reference to her service and pay. The manager said her employment ended on 31 December 2016. The WRC included her full service from 31 May 2004, finding that sickness absences of less than 26 weeks counted as reckonable service. The lump sum was subject to her having been in insurable employment.
