The WRC awarded a chef €5,919.96 gross for unpaid additional hours, a week’s wages and outstanding annual leave and public-holiday pay. The decision was dated 10 May 2018. The chef said he had worked 50 hours a week for wages covering 40 hours, with the extra time meant to be returned as time off. He claimed 200 hours remained unpaid, along with a week’s wages and 8.5 days of annual leave and public holidays. The hotel did not attend the hearing, and the adjudication officer said the chef’s account was the only evidence before her. The WRC upheld his Payment of Wages Act complaint. The award included €3,844 gross for the additional hours, €769 gross for the week’s wages and €1,306.96 for leave and public holidays.
