WRC directs transport company to pay clerical officer redundancy lump sum

By Fionn Kelly

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC directed a transport company to pay a clerical officer a redundancy lump sum calculated on the same basis as payments to eligible permanent employees. The decision was dated 29 May 2018. The officer had worked for the company on a temporary contract from 2015 until his job ended in October 2017. The WRC found that he had completed 104 weeks of service, performed work of the same or similar nature and value as permanent employees, and was eligible for statutory redundancy pay. The company had given no objective grounds for denying him a lump sum.
