The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Mc Gettigans Bakery to pay Trevor Orr €500 after finding it breached employment law by giving him a contract with an incorrect signing date. The decision was dated 17 May 2024. Orr said a copy of his contract provided in 2020 showed that he had signed it in 2011, although he did not receive the contract until 2014. The bakery accepted that his start date had been entered as the signing date in error. The adjudication officer found the information was false or misleading, while accepting it was entered without malice. Orr was not disadvantaged by the error. The WRC also found that three public holiday entitlements remained outstanding during Orr’s sick leave. The bakery was ordered to pay the equivalent of three days’ pay if it had not already paid him or provided paid time off in lieu.
