By Eimear Byrne

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission found Aoife Foley was unfairly dismissed by Waterford Health Park Pharmacy Ltd t/a Stratus Healthcare and ordered €14,000 compensation. The decision was dated 27 June 2023.

Foley worked as a healthcare assistant at the Waterford pharmacy. She said her hours were cut after she asked why she and two colleagues had been selected for reduced hours, and that her employment was then terminated.

The employer accepted that the dismissal was unfair and said the dispute concerned the amount of her financial loss. Foley was without income for 11 weeks before finding temporary work at a higher hourly rate. The adjudication officer found the employer was wholly responsible for her loss and had failed to follow a fair procedure.

The €14,000 award was compensation for unfair dismissal.
