WRC dismisses Esquires Coffee complaint after complainant misses hearing

By Orla Quinn

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed George-Calin Breban’s disability discrimination complaint against Esquires Coffee Findlater House T/A Esquires Coffee for want of evidence after he did not attend the hearing. The merits were not decided. The decision was dated 6 June 2023. Breban alleged that events following his entry to a Dublin coffee shop without a face mask amounted to disability discrimination. The respondent denied the claim and attended the hearing in Cork. The adjudicator said Breban had notice of the hearing and closed it after he did not appear; Breban returned a case officer’s call later that day, after the hearing had ended.
