The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Camile Stapait €1,632 for her employer’s failure to provide a written statement of employment terms, in a decision dated 12 July 2023. The WRC found some, but not all, of her complaints well founded. Stapait said she was dismissed after asking to take paid annual leave to travel home for Christmas. Her employer, Paulo Ribeiro’s Ltd T/A Wasabi Bar and Grill, denied dismissing her over the request and said her employment ended after an incident involving her husband. The WRC also upheld complaints about Sunday premium, daily rest breaks, annual leave and public holiday pay, cesser pay, and statutory notice rights. Other complaints—including civil status discrimination, notice pay under the Payment of Wages Act, and contractual notice—were not well founded. For the written terms complaint, the officer said Stapait had not received a statement within two months of starting work.
