WRC says it had no jurisdiction over Travelling Community pub complaint

By Aoife Loughran

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission found it had no jurisdiction to determine a complaint by James Collins, who said he was refused service at licensed premises because he is a member of the Travelling Community. The decision, dated 8 August 2023, left the discrimination merits undecided.

Mr Collins said he and his brother went to play darts and were refused entry. The respondent, Laurence Staunton, did not attend the hearing. The adjudication officer said the premises was licensed and that the WRC therefore could not determine the complaint.
