The Workplace Relations Commission found Philip Nelson’s age discrimination complaint against Bord Na Móna Plc was brought outside the time limit and was not well founded; the merits were not decided. Nelson, who worked for the company for almost 20 years as a GIS Specialist and GIS Manager, said it discriminated against him by refusing a second fixed-term contract after his retirement. The WRC found the alleged act occurred when the refusal was communicated on 23 March 2022, while the complaint was referred on 17 October 2022. It ruled that his explanation did not excuse the delay. The decision was dated 2 August 2023.
