The WRC dismissed two complaints by a trainee barista against a coffee shop, finding that the employer had not terminated her employment and that she was not justified in leaving. Adjudication Officer Pat Brady dated the recommendation 24 July 2023. The worker said a manager told her she was being let go after a workplace dispute, which she regarded as a dismissal. The coffee shop said she left her shift and did not return, which it understood as resignation. The officer considered it more likely that the worker left in frustration after her manager said the incident needed investigation. He found the manager lacked authority to dismiss her, and dismissed both complaints.
