The WRC recommended €2,500 compensation for a shop manager after finding his dismissal unfair. The recommendation was dated 5 July 2023. The worker said he had received positive feedback and was told he would get a pay rise weeks before his dismissal. The employer did not attend the hearing. The officer found that the employer had not presented evidence of its reasons for the dismissal and that the procedures fell short of the required standard. The officer was not satisfied that the worker had been told his employment could end at the close of probation if his performance was unacceptable.
