The Workplace Relations Commission found it had no jurisdiction to hear Paul Mannion’s Payment of Wages complaint against McDermott Laboratories Limited because it was brought outside the statutory time limit. The decision, dated 10 August 2023, concerned an alleged deduction on 18 December 2021; Mannion accepted that he filed late, saying he had waited until he felt secure in his new job. The merits were not decided. The law allowed six months to bring the complaint, with a possible extension of up to a further six months if there was reasonable cause. The adjudication officer found Mannion’s explanation did not amount to reasonable cause to extend the deadline. The operative decision found no jurisdiction because the complaint was statute-barred.
