The Workplace Relations Commission directed St Patrick's Mental Health Services to pay Mathew Mugri €490 after finding an unexplained sick pay deduction was unlawful. In a decision dated 11 July 2023, it upheld his Payment of Wages Act complaint to that extent. The employer said deductions were allowed under Mugri’s contract and sick pay scheme. The adjudicator accepted a deduction matching illness benefit could be made, but found no reason for a further €490 deduction and ordered it restored. Mugri accepted that a €256.21 pension contribution was contractually due, and the adjudicator rejected his challenge to the fortnightly pay calculation, finding he had suffered no loss.
