The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Harrington Bookmakers to pay Aimee Dowd €175.20 compensation after finding an unexplained deduction from her wages was unauthorised. The decision was dated 10 August 2023. Dowd worked for the bookmaker from 2 November to 17 December 2022. Her final payslip showed a deduction of €175.20. The company did not attend the hearing, but the officer was satisfied it had been notified. The officer found there was no contractual authority or prior written consent for the deduction, as required for a non-statutory deduction.
