Garda wages complaint dismissed as out of time

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed retired Garda Gerard McGrath’s complaint that An Garda Síochána failed to pay him an allowance during pandemic-related restricted duties. The decision, dated 3 November 2025, recorded no award. McGrath said the allowance remained due after his retirement and that the force had considered the issue within the complaint period. An Garda Síochána argued that no allowance was due and the claim was late. The adjudication officer found the alleged deductions occurred outside the statutory time limit, which internal consideration did not alter; the decision did not determine whether the allowance was owed.
