The Workplace Relations Commission has ordered John Tinnelly & Sons (Ireland) Limited to raise truck driver Anthony Cosgrave’s hourly rate from €19.53 to €20.03 and pay the 50-cent hourly shortfall retrospectively from 5 August 2024. The decision was dated 14 July 2025. The company argued that Cosgrave was a lorry driver rather than a Grade B construction operative, and said waste management and asbestos removal generated 60% of its consolidated turnover. Adjudication Officer Catherine Byrne found the company operated in the construction sector and that Cosgrave’s work removing demolition waste from building sites fell within Category B.
