The Equality Tribunal rejected a worker’s race discrimination claims over his working conditions and departure from employment, finding no evidence that he was treated differently from others doing the same job. The decision was dated 17 April 2009. The worker said he had less support and poorer office facilities than an Irish colleague, and that his contract ended after he complained. The employer said the colleague worked on a separate project and that the worker’s contract ended after he became uncontactable. The Equality Officer accepted the employer’s account and found the worker left when his contract ended. Claims against the funding organisation were outside the Tribunal’s jurisdiction because the worker had no employment contract with it; the merits of those claims were not decided. Other claims initially raised were withdrawn at the hearing.
