Equality Tribunal rejects Ms A’s discrimination and harassment claiMs Against parish priest

By Gráinne Nolan

Workplace decision ·

The Equality Tribunal rejected Ms A’s claims of discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment and victimisation against Father B, a parish priest. Equality Officer Orlaith Mannion dated the decision 14 April 2009. The officer found no evidence linking the treatment of Ms A’s employment conditions to her gender or marital status. She found that her suspension was not harassment on those grounds and that the evidence did not establish sexual harassment. Ms A’s exclusion from parish groups followed events leading to her suspension and dismissal, rather than a complaint under the Acts. The officer did not examine Ms A’s separate discriminatory or victimisatory dismissal claims because the Employment Appeals Tribunal had begun hearing the dismissal matter.
