Equality Officer finds disability discrimination complaint was out of time

By Eimear Byrne

Workplace decision ·

The Equality Officer found a disability discrimination complaint was brought outside the time limit and was not well founded; the merits were not decided. The decision was dated 12 March 2014. The worker said he was offered a Sports Hall Assistant role on a community enterprise scheme in January 2010, subject to Garda vetting, but was later refused the position. The respondent said the offer depended on successful vetting. The Equality Officer found the last contact between the parties was on 27 April 2010, nearly six months before even the extended time limit would have expired. The complaint had been referred on 17 October 2011.
