Restaurant worker’s gender and race dismissal complaints fail

By Ruairí Dolan

Workplace decision ·

An Equality Officer dismissed a restaurant worker’s complaints that her dismissal was discriminatory on gender and race grounds. The decision was dated 20 April 2015. The worker said the restaurant manager fired her after a cash-register incident. The manager made no submission and did not attend the hearing. The officer accepted that the worker had been mistreated, but found no evidence linking her treatment or dismissal to gender or race; she described the manager as abusive to staff regardless of those grounds. Both complaints failed.
