Equality Officer dismisses Kosjakov and Feklina’s complaint after they miss hearing

By Orla Quinn

Workplace decision ·

An Equality Officer decided in favour of landlord Peter Sobolewski after Vladimir Kosjakov and Larissa Feklina failed to attend their race discrimination hearing. The decision was dated 6 March 2007; the merits were not decided. Kosjakov and Feklina alleged that Sobolewski discriminated against them in connection with letting them a house and trying to get them to leave. The hearing was adjourned at Sobolewski’s request for work-related reasons, then set for 23 February 2007. The complainants sought another adjournment, saying they could not pursue other proceedings until their High Court case was decided. The officer refused, noting there was no evidence or court order showing they were prohibited from proceeding. After they failed to attend, the officer waited 30 minutes but received no contact.
