An Equality Officer found for Barretts Public House, Thurles, after James McCarthy, Linda and Anna McCarthy said they were refused service because they are members of the Traveller community. The decision was dated 31 October 2007.
The McCarthys said the pub refused them service on 26 April 2002 because of their Traveller background. Barretts said the group was asked to leave because they were with an underage friend. The Equality Officer accepted that the barman knew their friend was 17 and found this was why the group was asked to leave.
The three complainants failed to establish a prima facie case of discrimination on the Traveller community ground.
