Equality Officer finds against Sherlock family after missed hearing

By Gráinne Nolan

Workplace decision ·

The Equality Tribunal found against Clint Sherlock, Anne-Marie Sherlock and their son Edward Sherlock in their complaint alleging Traveller community discrimination and harassment by Clare County Council over housing and accommodation services. Equality Officer Marian Duffy dated the decision 5 November 2008. The family did not attend the hearings on 28 and 29 May 2007; the officer found their failure to attend unreasonable. She found against the complainants after no evidence supporting the discrimination allegation was presented. The merits were not decided. Duffy also found that the family’s representative, Heather Rosen, had obstructed and impeded the investigation. She ordered Rosen to pay Clare County Council €200 in expenses.
