Equality Tribunal ends mother’s complaint after she misses hearing

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Workplace decision ·

The Equality Tribunal ended a mother’s discrimination complaint after she did not attend the hearing, finding her failure to attend “unreasonable in the circumstances”. The decision was dated 4 March 2011. The mother had complained on behalf of her daughter that a national school manager refused to enrol the girl in the mainstream school and its Emotional Difficulties Unit because of family status and disability. The respondent attended the hearing on 2 March 2011, but the complainant did not. The Tribunal found against the complainant after no evidence of discrimination was presented; the merits were not decided.
