An Equality Officer found that a secondary school did not discriminate on religious grounds when it gave preference to Roman Catholic applicants for First Year places. The decision was dated 12 August 2014. Ms. A brought the complaint on behalf of her son, X, a Christian Orthodox pupil who was not offered a place for the 2014 academic year. The school said it was oversubscribed and had filled all 90 places under its admissions policy. The policy first gave priority to applicants with siblings at the school and then to Roman Catholic applicants. The Equality Officer found that the school had filled all its places and that this preference did not amount to a refusal under the Equal Status Acts. The complaint was not well founded.
