The Labour Court awarded Pauline Butler €3,000 after finding that her employer’s mandatory retirement policy at 65 was not objectively justified. The Court dated its determination 13 January 2023. Butler had worked as a receptionist for McLoughlin & Sons Hardware Limited from 1998 until 2020. The Court found her gender discrimination claim and a second element of her age discrimination claim not well founded, noting that the employer had agreed to her request for a six-month extension beyond 65.
