Labour Court rejects worker’s sexual harassment and discrimination complaint

By Cathal Brosnan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court found that a worker had not established her complaint that a company’s managing director sexually harassed her or that she was dismissed after resisting his advances. The order was signed on 13 February 1998. The worker, a receptionist and typist, said the managing director harassed her and dismissed her after she refused his advances. The company denied this and said it dismissed her for poor performance. The Court found the company’s incompetence explanation lacked credibility and its account of the dismissal in Christmas week unsatisfactory, but concluded there was insufficient evidence to substantiate the harassment and discrimination case. It found the complaint was not well founded.
